4th of July Weekend

We’ve had a very relaxing weekend at home.  One of Pete’s high school classmates is a volunteer for the Norm Coleman campaign and she signed us up to walk in the Delano Parade on the 4th.  It was a very nice walk and we only got heckled a few times.  On Friday evening, our neighbors were having a big party that ended with a spectacular fireworks display!  They lit them off in the empty lot between our houses.  We got Andrew to bed just in time and then sat out on the deck and watched the fireworks over the pond.  Luckily, Andrew was very tired and slept through the whole thing.

We spent the rest of the weekend playing with Andrew, watering the grass (got heckled, again, by the neighbors…they think we should put in an irrigation system), and went for lots of nice long walks.

Andrew spent some time with me in the kitchen.  We stocked the freezer with homemade baby food.  So far he’s had carrots, peas, green beans, squash, sweet potatoes, apples, pears, bananas, and apricots.

Andrew was checking out the freshly mowed grass for the first time.  Yes, this was his first 4th of July outfit.  No, I didn’t put him in a cute blue, red, and white outfit.  Notice how there is blue and white (okay, it’s really cream) and stripes though!

Andrew and Dad.

He felt kind of sad because the neighbor kids got to sleep in a tent in their backyard.

Check out the blue heron that we see almost every morning!

Finally…an update.

We’ve been so busy watering the new lawn, that we’ve completely forgotten to keep this blog up-to-date.  We promise to be better.
Summer has been going well for all of us.  I’ve been spending lots of time trying to decide what type of landscaping we’ll eventually put in.  Pete is busy working and watering the lawn.
We’ve both been busy trying to figure out a way to get Andrew to go to sleep at night without a lot of assistance from us.  He sleeps through the night but just doesn’t want to go to sleep.  We’ve tried Ferber and letting him cry it out.  It probably didn’t work because of me.  I couldn’t handle hearing him wail through the monitor.  So we borrowed the No-Cry Sleep Solution book from Aunt Wendy.  Things seem to be going better.  Takes a bit longer but no one is crying, so we think it’s a good thing!

Just to give you and idea of how much Andrew has grown – here he is at just a couple of weeks old.

And here’s the little chunk at 5 months.  He’s about 17 pounds!  Notice how he has lost some of his tan… I mean jaundice.

Dad and Andrew taking their Saturday morning naps.

He’s working on sitting up.  When we let him sit on his own he reaches way down to grab his feet and then topples over.

Jake brought over a new toy to share.

I wonder if they’ll always be this sweet and innocent…

We’re getting lots of use out of the new deck.  Andrew enjoys watching the neighbor kids paddle their kayaks in the pond.

We have read lots of books this summer!  He loves these squishy ones.  He somehow ended up with 3 from the same series.

Aunt Erin was able to spend some time with us.  She is going to be our live-in nanny in a couple of weeks while Laura’s parents make one last escape to Switzerland to visit the Nelson’s before they move back (they are moving back, right?).

Andrew’s doctor determined that he has a mild case of bronchiolitis.  We picked up a nebulizer and he gets four doses a day.  It came with the mask, which stayed on for about four seconds.  It also came with this pacifier that has a hole in the top to shoot out the medicine.  Very clever!
